About Paul Tompkins – Clinical Lead and Owner
Owner & Lead Clinician Paul Tompkins, (Better known as Tommo!) has a long and distinguished career within Physiotherapy. He qualified in 2000 from the University of Brighton. Following 4 years working as a Physio in the NHS at Southmead Hospital, Tommo was lucky enough to become the Head Physiotherapist at Bristol Rugby Club. During his time at the club he looked after several International players, and was proud to be associated with lots of success on the pitch, including a 3rd place finish in the Guiness Premiership.
In 2009 Tommo left rugby and moved back into the NHS as an Extended Scope Practitioner specialising in Orthopaedic triage in South Gloucestershire. It was during this time he also set up his fledgling Hanham Physiotherapy Private Practice at the end of his Garden!! During his time working as an ESP Tommo developed several advanced skills including joint injections and prescribing. His clinic has grown in the last 10 years including working extensively from Hanham Health, Ministry of Fitness Gym in Kingswood and the Somerdale Pavilion in Keynsham. Tommo has a wealth of experience in Orthopaedics, Musculoskeletal medicine and Sports Injury management and this widespread knowledge allows him to treat patients in a holistic manner as well as being able to decide if and how Physiotherapy may be helpful. He has very close links with specialists both locally and nationally, and regularly receives referrals for specialist rehabilitation. Tommo has built an exceptional team of therapists and other staff, and is very excited about the move into the High Street.
Alongside his clinical work Tommo also teaches part-time at the University of the West of England on a variety of undergraduate and postgraduate courses, ensuring that his clinical knowledge remains completely up to date. He also lectures nationwide on the RFU pre-hospital trauma course. Tommo is also very proud to have a separate business providing Pitch-side trauma care to a wide variety of local football and rugby clubs. Within this, Tommo also looks after the 1st Team at Keynsham Town Ladies FC who play in the Women’s National League. In recent years Tommo also spent two seasons working as a Consultant Physiotherapist with the 1st Team at Cheltenham Town Football Club.
Away from physiotherapy Paul enjoys spending time with his wife Clair and daughter Lottie. He plays golf (badly!) He also enjoys reading and has a particular interest in military history.
